First time in Austria as non-EU / non-European Economic Area / non-Schengen citizen

Third-country citizens are defined as individuals who

  • are not citizens of the EU or
  • citizens of another European Economic Area country (from Iceland, Lichtenstein, or Norway)
  • and are not Swiss citizens.

Residence/accommodation registration - main residence:

  • Regardless of the length of your stay, you need to register your address/residence. 
  • In case you wish to receive the local discount card for public transportation services and more, you need to register your Austrian residence as your Main residence (Haupwohnsitz).
  • Depending on your country of origin that might result in further action to be taken from your side. Please get in touch with local authorities of your country of origin and ask what to do if you have your main residence registered in Austria.

De-registration upon leaving (or address update).

  • In case you are in Raabheim, the dormitory does the de-registration for you. You do NOT need to de-register upon you are leaving the dormitory.
  • If you are a resident of another student dormitory ask at the reception whether they do the de-registration upon your departure.
